What is Double Chin Liposuction?

Double chin liposuction is an effective procedure to remove a double chin for enhancing one’s appearance. It involves removing fatty skin from under the chin, beneath the jowl, and along the upper portion of the neck.

Also called Submental Liposuction, this procedure tightens the muscles around the chin lessening the appearance of a double chin and improving the chin’s contour.

At Eravio, we often recommend this procedure to be combined with facelift, neck lift and/or chin implants to significantly enhance a person’s appearance.

Does Double Chin Liposuction hurt?

Double Chin Liposuction is an outpatient procedure and doesn’t require a stay in the hospital. It has been reported to be much less painful than other liposuction procedures. The recovery from double chin liposuction is much shorter than the recovery period associated with other liposuction surgeries.

Recovering from Double Chin Liposuction

The most common after-effects of a double chin liposuction are bruising and swelling. After the procedure, we usually use a head wrap on the patient to keep the pressure under the chin and reduce swelling. The head-wrap also ensures that the skin will conform to the neck contour correctly. We recommend that the patients use the head wrap for about a week. Lastly, we also tell the patient to keep their head elevated at all times.

Most of the patients are able to resume their normal life in one week after the procedure.

What Is The Procedure Of A Double Chin Liposuction?

At Eravio, we use the Lasotronix Laser to perform the double chin liposuction. The steps of the procedure are as follows:

Before starting the procedure, the doctor will examine your chin and neck to determine the exact position to insert the cannula for removing extra fat.
The doctor then rinses your skin and injects a local anaesthetic into the skin.
The surgeon then makes several small incisions in your skin and inserts the cannula with the Lasotronix Laser fibre.
The surgeon then removes excess fat from your skin by moving the cannula in a back-and-forth or fanning motion.
The surgeon ensures that the chin has been brought to the desired shape and aligns with the facial appearance.
Once confirmed, the surgeon removes the cannula and applies the bandages on the incisions.

Does Double Chin Liposuction Have Long Lasting Results?

Double chin liposuction is designed to deliver long-term results. However, the lasting of the results depends on the individual. On an average, the effects of the double chin liposuction last for about 8 to 10 years. However, aging affects every person differently and the effects of double chin liposuction will gradually disappear.

What Are The Risks Involved In A Double Chin Liposuction?

Like any surgery, a double chin liposuction also has risks including:

Infection
Swelling
Pain
Fever

The side effects from the double chin liposuction are minimal due to the small incisions used during the treatment. The scars from the incisions will gradually disappear on their own.

How Long Does It Take To Heal From The Double Chin Liposuction Procedure?

It takes about three months to completely heal from the double chin liposuction procedure, along with continuous improvement for up to one year after the surgery. Most patients can return to their daily routine within one to two weeks after the surgery. However, the doctors advise to refrain from any strenuous activity for at least six weeks after the treatment.

There are instances where some patients may experience swelling and discomfort around the chin and the neck immediately after the surgery. But these issues will subside within one or two days. A patient may also require draining to remove excessive fluid and water build-up in the chin and neck. This can be done within a few days after the surgery.

Can I Shower After The Double Chin Liposuction Procedur?

Yes, you can. But only a day after the surgery. If you have given a wrap to wear after the double chin liposuction surgery, you must temporarily remove it when showering.
